Capital Currency, Inc. - June, 1998
The US Error Note Encyclopedia by Stephen M. Sullivan was introduced at the 21st International Paper Money Show in Memphis, Tennessee on June 20th, 1998. The 431 page book examines every aspect of the 48 currency error types.
Key features to this extensive reference work include:
- an illustrated price guide with nearly 600 error notes photographs and current retail pricing for 3 grades of each type of error. Pricing Considerations are included with every section to address many of the factors that can affect the value of an error note.
- in depth examinations of the different ways each error can be created.
- classifications of the different types and ranges of each error that can be found.
- cautions to potential buyers including:
- identifications of the errors that are often misclassified as Multiple Errors.
- listings of possible methods a genuine error note can be altered to increase the value.
- a chapter on detecting Counterfeit Errors and Altered Notes.
- cataloging of many of the rarer large sized currency errors including complete Serial Number listings of all reported large sized Star Note, Inverted Face and Double Denomination errors.
- cataloging of the rarer small sized currency errors including complete Serial Number listings of all reported Double Denomination, Wrong Overprint and Mixed Denomination errors.
- a section on what to things to look for when examining a note for possible errors. There are also discussions of errors that are possible but have not yet been encountered in the collecting community. New security features on the Series 1996 $100.00 Federal Reserve Notes have already generated 2 new types of Error notes. Misplaced Watermarks and Color Changing Ink Smears were reported to the numismatic community by the author in August of 1996.
- a section at the end of each chapter for the reader to record Serial Numbers, new discoveries and other information about each type of error.
