The Rarest Process Error Known To Exist
"Each Type of modern US currency has an overprint that is easily distinquishable
from other types. United States Notes have a red overprint, National Currency
have a brown overprint, Silver Certificates have a blue and black overprint, Gold
Certificates have a gold overprint and Federal Reserve Notes have a Green and Black
overprint.
Federal Reserve Notes are the only type of US Currency being printed today, but
there have been numerous occasions when multiple types of currency were being printed
in the BEP at the same time. There are two recorded cases where a sheet of notes printed
for one type of currency were accidentally overprinted with the seals and serial
numbers meant for another type of currency. Only three examples from these two sheets
(of 18 notes each) are known to have survived."*
This example is the only known Legal Tender Overprint on a Federal Reserve Note.
The other two examples of this error type are Silver Certificate Overprints on Federal
Reserve Notes.
