TENNESSEE

Tennessee seceded from the Union on June 24, 1861. Tennessee did not issue State notes but many of the local banks issued their own currency.

Most of this currency was redeemable in Confederate currency.

U.S. federal currency was also used in many parts of the state that were under Union control.
