$5000 Federal Reserve Note
Small Sized High Denomination notes of $500, $1000, $5000 and $10,000 denominations
were printed for the Federal Reserve Note Series 1928, 1934, 1934A and 1934B. 1934B Series
notes were printed but were never released into circulation. These notes no longer circulate and even the worst looking notes command a numismatic
premium with collectors.
Banks are instructed to return these notes to the Federal Reserve Banks for
destruction when they are redeemed.
There were a total of 280,400 $5000.00 notes printed for all series. Today only
344 notes are still unredeemed. Of those, less than 200 notes are confirmed in collectors
hands.
