$100.00 Gold Certificates
Large Sized $100.00 Gold Certificates were issued for five series: 1863, 1870, 1875, 1882 and 1922. There are nine distinct varieties (major differences with Series, Face Design, Seal Type or Back design) within this denomination.

Series 1863 is the first Series of $100.00 Gold Certificates. The Eagle vignette on the left represents "E. Pluribus Unum". All Series 1863 $100.00 Gold Certificates bear the signatures of S.B. Colby and F.E. Spinner and are hand dated and countersigned by an Assistant Treasurer of the United States.

The faces of Series 1870 $100.00 Gold Certificates represent a complete new design from the previous series. These notes are uniface and have no back design. The portrait on the left side of the face is Thomas H. Benton. Series 1870 $100.00 Gold Certificates hand dated and countersigned by an Assistant Treasurer of the United States. They were payable in New York.
