Large Sized $500.00 Gold Certificates were issued for five series: 1863, 1870, 1875, 1882 and 1922.

There are eight distinct varieties (major differences with Series, Face Design, Seal Type or Back design) within this denomination.

Series 1863 is the first Series of $500.00 Gold Certificates. The Eagle vignette on the left represents "E. Pluribus Unum".

All Series 1863 $500.00 Gold Certificates bear the signatures of S.B. Colby and F.E. Spinner and are hand dated and countersigned by an Assistant Treasurer of the United States.

The portrait on the left side of the face is Abraham Lincoln.

All Series 1870 $500.00 Gold Certificates bore the signatures of John Allison as Register of the Treasury and two additional signatures of the Assistant Treasurer of New York and the Assistant Treasurer of The United States. They were hand dated.
