Series 1863 is the first Series of $5000.00 Gold Certificates. The Eagle vignette on the left represents "E. Pluribus Unum".
All Series 1863 $5000.00 Gold Certificates bear the signatures of S.B. Colby and F.E. Spinner and
are hand dated and countersigned by an Assistant Treasurer of the United States.

The faces of the Series 1870 $5000.00 Gold Certificates represent a complete new design from the previous series.
These notes are uniface and have no Back design.
The portrait on the left side of the face is James Madison.
Series 1870 $5000.00 Gold Certificates bore the signatures of Allison & New, Allison & Gilfillan, and Allison & Wyman. They were hand dated bewteen 1870 and 1871 and countersigned by an Assistant Treasurer of the United States.
