The $1000.00 Interest Bearing Notes was the issued under 5 different Congressional Acts: The Acts of March 2, 1861, July 17, 1861, March 3, 1863, July 30, 1864 and March 3, 1865. There are nine distinct varieties (major differences with Series, Face Design, Seal Type and / or Back Design) within this denomination.

Interest Bearing Notes Issued under the Congressional Act of March 2, 1861 were issued in two distinct types. The first was payable in 60 days and the other was payable in 2 years. Both issues had an interest rate of 6%. $1000.00 Notes were only issued for the 2 Year Issue.

The Faces and Backs of this issue represent the first design type of the denomination. The Portrait on the left side of the Face is George Washington. The Vignette in the center is Columbia and the vignette on the right is the Treasury Building.

Interest Bearing Notes Issued under the Congressional Act of July 17, 1861 were payable in 3 years and had an interest rate of 7 3/10%. These notes had 5 Interest Coupons attached to them. The Faces and Backs of this issue represent a complete new design from the previous issue. The Portrait in the Center of the Face is Salmon P. Chase.

Act of March 3, 1863				Interest Bearing Notes Issued under the Congressional Act of March 3, 1863 were issued in two distinct types. The first was payable in 1 year and the other was payable in 2 years. Both issues had an interest rate of 5%.
The faces and backs of this issue represent a complete new design from the previous issue. The vignette on the left side of the face is "Justice", the vignette in the center is an Eagle with Shield and the vignette on the right represents Liberty. The back design is unknown.
