$10.00 United States Notes (Legal Tenders)
|
Large Sized $10.00 Legal Tenders were issued for eight series: 1862, 1863, 1869, 1875, 1878, 1880, 1901 and 1923.
There are fourteen distinct varieties (major differences with Face Design, Seal Type and / or Back Design) within this denomination.
These notes are commonly called "Legal Tenders" because of their payment obligation stating "This Note is a Legal Tender.."

The Portrait at the left side of the face is Daniel Webster, Secretary of State from 1850 through 1852. The allegorical figure at the right side of the face represents "Pocahontas being presented to the Royal Court of England".
Because of the vivid colors and the blue tinted paper, this Series is refered to as the "Rainbow" series.

This Series of $10.00 United States notes was printed with a series designator similar to the $1.00 Notes of Series 1862. Instead of a numeric series, like the earlier releases, these notes bore Alpha series designators. "Series A" was the first 1,000,000 notes printed. After the first 1,000,000 notes were printed, the series dropped the Alpha designators and just "Series 1875" was printed.
