$10.00 National Currency
1st Charter Period

The first charter was from 1863 through 1882.

The First Charter $10 National Currency notes were the initial issue of National Currency and therefore represent a complete new design of the Face and Back. The vignette at the left of the face is "Benjamin Franklin drawing electricity from the sky with a kite and a key". The vignette on the right of the face is "Liberty soaring on an eagle, clutching lightening in her hand". The vignette in the center of the Back is "Desoto discovering the Mississippi in 1541".
