1st Charter Period

The first charter was from 1863 through 1882.

The First Charter $100 National Currency notes were the initial issue of National Currency and therefore represent a complete new design of the Face and Back. The vignette at the left of the face is "Commodore Perry leaving his flagship the Lawrence suring the Battle of Lake Erie." The vignette on the right of the face is "Liberty seated by fasces". The vignette in the center of the Back is "Thomas Jefferson presenting the Declaration of Independence to John Hancock at the Continental Congress".
