$5.00 National Currency
1st Charter Period

The first charter was from 1863 through 1882.

The First Charter $5 National Currency notes were the initial issue of National Currency and therefore represent a complete new design of the Face and Back. The vignette at the left of the face is "Christopher Columbus in Sight of Land". The vignette on the right of the face is the "Presentaion of an Indian Princess to the Old World". The vignette in the center of the Back is the "Landing of Christopher Columbus".
