Series 1878 Back Design
Series 1878 is the first Series of $1000.00 Silver Certificates. The portrait on the left side of the face is of William L. Marcy. All Series 1878 $1000.00 Silver Certificates bear the signatures of Scofield and Gilfillan and are countersigned by an Assistant Treasurer or Treasurer of the U.S.
Series 1878 - Countersigned - Overprinted with Large Red Seal at center and the number "1000" printed in Red under the seal.
The faces and backs of Series 1891 $1000.00 Silver Certificates represent a complete new design from those of the previous series.
The figure on the left side of the face is Libery holding a Shield and the portrait on the right side is William L. Marcy.
