Series 1878 is the first Series of $1000.00 Silver Certificates. The portrait on the left side of the face is of William L. Marcy. All Series 1878 $1000.00 Silver Certificates bear the signatures of Scofield and Gilfillan and are countersigned by an Assistant Treasurer or Treasurer of the U.S.
