Series 1878 Back Design
Series 1878 is the first Series of $50 Silver Certificates. The portrait on the right side of Edward Everett, the Secretary of State in 1852 and 1853. All Series 1878 $50.00 Silver Certificates bear the signatures of Scofield and Gilfillan and
are countersigned by an Assistant Treasurer or Treasurer of the U.S.
Series 1878 - Countersigned - Overprinted with Large Red Seal at center and the word "FIFTY" printed in Red under the seal.
The face design of Series 1891 $50.00 Silver Certificates is very similar in appearance to Series 1880 notes.
The back represents a complete new design.
Series 1891 - Overprinted with a Small Blue at the Lower of Center.
