$50.00 Silver Certificates
Large Sized $50.00 Silver Certificates were issued for three series: 1878, 1880 and 1891. There are six distinct varieties (major differences with Series,Face Design, Seal Type and / or Back Design) within this denomination.


Series 1878	Series 1878 Face Design	Series 1878 Back Design

Series 1878 is the first Series of $50 Silver Certificates. The portrait on the right side of Edward Everett, the Secretary of State in 1852 and 1853. All Series 1878 $50.00 Silver Certificates bear the signatures of Scofield and Gilfillan and are countersigned by an Assistant Treasurer or Treasurer of the U.S.

Series 1878 - Countersigned - Overprinted with Large Red Seal at center and the word "FIFTY" printed in Red under the seal.

The face and back of Series 1880 $50.00 Silver Certificates are very similar to Series 1878 notes.

Series 1880 - Overprinted with Large Brown Seal at center and a brown "L" under the seal.
