Ms. Banuelos was the first hispanic woman to be appointed to the post of Treasurer of the United States by President Nixon. Three weeks after naming her to the post, federal immigration agents raided her food processing plant.
Ms. Banuelos was born in Arizona and grew up in Mexico. She founded the Pan American National Bank in Los Angeles.
