Joseph W. Barr

Barr got a master's degree in theoretical economics at Harvard, which made him uniquely qualified to be dealing with monetary policy for our government. Unfortunately, he only served as Secretary of Treasury for one month.

After earning a Bronze Star in the navy during World War II, he spent over a decade helping to manage his family's collection of businesses. He went on to serve in Congress and the House Banking and Currency Committee. After helping Kennedy to get elected, he served as Assistant to the Under Secretary of the Treasury, and would have been nominated to be Chairman of the FDIC had Kennedy not been assassinated.

Although he only served for one month, he did get a chance to autograph some greenbacks: the Series 1963B $1 Note.

Secretary of the Treasury from 12/21/1968 through 01/20/1969
