Rosario Marin

After a long dry spell (nearly seven months since the resignation of Mary Ellen Withrow, Rosario Marin was appointed as the 41st Treasurer of the United States. The Treasury Department tells us that "She is [...] the highest Latina to serve in President George W. Bush's Administration."

Ms. Marin is the fourth Hispanic woman to be appointed to this post, but the first who was Mexican born. She is a Harvard graduate and has also served as Mayor of Huntington Park, Deputy Directory of the Governor's Office of Community Relations of Los Angeles, Deputy Director of the California State Department of Social Services, Chair of the State Council on Developmental Disabilities in California, and Chief of Legislative Affairs for the Department of Developmental Services. She has also worked as a Public Relations Manager for AT&T.

Ms. Marin has a son with Down's Syndrome and was an advocate for people with disabilities, and for her efforts, she has earned the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Prize at the United Nations.
