Henry Morgenthau, Jr.
Henry Morgenthau was selected by Franklin Delanor Roosevelt to serve as the Secretary of the Treasury, following William Woodin's untimely resignation. Mr. Morgenthau held this post for eleven and a half years.
Morgenthau started life as a farmer, and became active in US agricultural policy, working for Hoover's US Farm Administration, publisher of the "American Agriculturalist," and serving as the Chairman of the New York State Agricultural Advisory Commission, State Commissioner of Conservation, Chairman of the Federal Farm Board, and Governor of the Farm Credit Administration.
