John Wesley Snyder
John Snyder started out in banking, and moved on to National Bank Receiver in the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, to Federal Loan Administrator, and to Director of War Mobilization and Reconversion. After World War II, he was appointed by Harry Truman to the post of Secretary of the Treasury.
He was in charge of reducing the federal debt, encouraging people to save, and generally stabilizing the U.S. economy. As part of this, he streamlined the IRS.
