Federal Reserve Notes

This is the only type of US Currency still being produced although Silver Certificates and Legal Tender (United States) notes still turn up in circulation from time to time.

The Federal Reserve System divides the United States into 12 different regions. The currency of each of these regions is supplied by a Federal Reserve Bank assigned to that region.

The following chart lists the Federal Reserve Branches with a corresponding Letter (from 1 - 12) and Number (from A - L). These letters and numbers appear on the face of all Federal Reserve Notes. The Numbers are in various positions on the face and in the seal of early issues. The letters are at the beginning of the Serial Number and in the Seals.

This type of note was issued in denominations of $1.00, $2.00, $5.00, $10.00, $20.00, $50.00, $100.00, $500.00, $1000.00, $5000.00, and $10,000.00.
