Admiral Farragut Admiral
David Glasgow Farragut

(July 5, 1801 - August 14, 1870)

"I mean to be whipped or to whip my enemy, and not be scared to death."

- Admiral David Glasgow Farragut

David Farragut was born in Campbell's Station, Tennessee. He was an Admiral in the Union Army during the Civil War.

"Damn the Torpedoes!" This saying is attributed to Admiral Farragut. He said it in 1864 during the battle of Mobile Bay.

In 1866, he was promoted to first Admiral of the U.S. Navy, all four stars. Following in his father's footsteps, he went to sea at the age of 8, commanding his first ship by the age of 12.

Even though he was raised in the south, he chose to fight on the side of the Union forces. After the war, it was suggested that he run for President but he declined.

What's not widely known about this man was that he was Hispanic in descent.
