John Marshall

John Marshall

(September 24, 1755 - July 6, 1835)

John Marshall was born in Germantown, Virginia. He was a Captain in the Continental Army and to spend the winter at Valley Forge under George Washington. He was a cousin of Thomas Jefferson.

Marshall was appointed first to Secretary of State under John Adams, and later to the Supreme court, where he became Chief Justice, serving for 34 years.
