George G. Meade

(December 13, 1815 - November 6, 1872)

George Gordon Meade was born in Cadiz, Spain. He Entered the Military Academy in 1831. General Meade was a Union General during the Civil War. He defeated General Lee at the battle of Gettysburg. He was assigned by Lincoln to replace General Hooker in command of the Army of the Potomac.

He eventually earned the rank of Major General of the US Army.
