Silas Wright

Silas Wright

(May 24, 1795 - August 27, 1847)

Silas Wright was born Amherst Massachusetts. He served in the New York state Senate from 1824 through 1827, in the United States House of Representatives from 1827 through 1830, and in the United States Senate from 1833 through 1844.

He was nominated as the 1844 Vice Presidential candidate, but he refused the nomination. He defeated Millard Fillmore in a race for Governor of New York.

He also backed Andrew Jackson on his opposition to the Bank of the United States.
