WHAT DO I HAVE?

If you have found this page, it is probably because you have found a piece of US currency that looks different from the currency you see every day and you don't know whether to spend it or save it for your retirement.

The note shown here sold for over $20,000.00 in 1998. This is not a typo, it sold for $20,000.00 and would sell for more today! In 1953 $5.00 notes found in circulation had green, red or blue seals and serial numbers on them so a $5.00 note with a Red overprint did not raise any eyebrows. Can you tell what makes this note different? Would have have spent it as $5.00 or would you have known something was amiss? Hint: The Overprint is Not missing a Seal. The Red Overprint of United States Notes had only one seal.

In 1999 a group of 40 brand new notes was discovered in a cash register at a Gas Station in Louisiana. These notes had errors on them that most people would not have known to look for. These notes are selling in excess of $1000.00 each in near perfect condition. Starting with Series 1988A and continuing through Series 1993, an experimental type of $1.00 was printed and circulated. Every one of these notes is worth more than face value with many of them valued in the hundreds of dollars and some of them valued in the thousands of dollars each. In 2000, a woman found an old US banknote in her fathers belongings after his death. The note was very rare and sold in excess of $200,000.00. These are not isolated incidents. There is still plenty of US currency circulating worth far more than face value.

Every issue of US currency (yes, every issue... including the Series and Denominations you have in your wallet right now) has errors, short printing runs, rare block combinations and several other things that can make notes found in everyday circulation worth far more than face value. Collectors are paying over $2000.00 for Series 1995 $1.00 notes with an error that most people would not even notice, but one that jumps out at people who know what to look for.

These things can make modern currency very valuable but what about older currency? Old Currency can be found anywhere from inside of old books to buried in a tin can in an vacant lot to found in a relatives safe deposit box or passed down from generation to generation (all of these things have happened and made people a lot of money).

The Currency Market has literally exploded with no end in sight. Over the past two years, two notes have sold for over $1,000,000.00 (ONE MILLION DOLLARS!!) each. During this same time period, over a dozen notes that were previously unknown and thought not to exist have been discovered. In order to cash in on these discoveries, you need to know what to look for and the estimated values of the items that you find.

"The Comprehensive Catalog of US Currency - 5th Edition" was written with the help of several US currency experts. It lists estimated values for older currency and gives detailed information on collectable currency scams (things that people do to try to make currency appear to have more than face value), modern and contemporary counterfiets, Errors and Series and Serial Number combinations to look for in you money. It is heavily illustrated so you can compare your discoveries to the pictures in the book to eaily identify your finds without having to acquire a lifetime of currency knowledge. This book is a must for bank tellers, currency handlers and anyone interested in modern day rarities that may be found in everyday circulation.

You can rarely pluck a Silver coin from circulation any more and lugging around a metal detector just isn't that appealing, but you can do something even better.
